After a five million dollar extensive renovation and remodeling which was completed in late 2021, the Scotty is now ready to host your private event, wedding rehearsal dinner or wedding reception!
The Scottish Rite Cathedral, originally the home for the branch of freemasonry, the theatre was originally used to stage dramatic works affiliated with the "rites" of the organization. Owned by the Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite, the Peoria area chapter of Freemasonry, it began to rent the facility out around 1985, however the building lacked one major amenity: air conditioning.
The building was designed by the Hewitt, Emerson and Gregg architectural firm which took over a 2 1/2 years from 1922 to 1925 and cost a staggering $400,000. Edward Ulysses Henry, the planner of the design was highly influenced by a trip to Europe and had elements of the architecture he saw while on his trip incorporated into the design of the Peoria Scottish Rite.
When inside the Scottish Rite Peoria, you'll see many Masonic symbols throughout the building. One of the most freqently used symbols is the double-headed eagle and the Latin phrase "Spes mea in Deo est" which means My Hope is in God. This was one of the core values of the members of the group which included reverence for God, devotion to the USA, integrity, justice, toleration and service.
In addition to the theatre which seats nearly 900, there are also offices, meeting rooms, lounges plus a basement ballroom. And like many other Scottish Rite buildings from this era, it also houses a huge, Romantic-style Moller 3 pipe organ with 4,000 pipes. The organiztion's members staged their theatrical productions in the auditorium which were historical or biblically-themed and meant to teach or reinforce Masonic philosophies. To put on these shows which were performed members, many costumes, wigs and scenery pieces that were used over the decaded of productions were still in storage under the stage.
Whether you're planning a corporate meeting, a fundraiser for a non-profit group, a seminar or educational class, a trade show or convention or a wedding rehearsal dinner or reception or even a birthday party, the Scotty is available to accomodate your needs.
